Agency Work vs. Therapy for Every Body
Choosing where to grow as a therapist is an important decision. Many clinicians begin their careers in agency settings and later move into private practice. Understanding the differences can help you find the environment that best fits your goals and values.
Working in an Agency
Agency positions are often structured as full-time (around 40 hours per week) and may include a mix of clinical work, documentation, meetings, and outreach.
While agencies can offer a steady paycheck and benefits, they often come with:
- Heavy caseloads and extensive paperwork requirements
- Limited flexibility in scheduling
- A more corporate or institutional environment
- Clients from a narrower range of socioeconomic backgrounds
- Shorter-term therapy focused on crisis stabilization or symptom reduction
- Supervision that can be impersonal or inconsistent due to workload demands
For some therapists, this can be a valuable training ground, but it can also lead to burnout or leave little room for creativity and depth in the work.
Working at Therapy for Every Body
Therapy for Every Body offers a different kind of experience. We’re a small, inclusive group practice that emphasizes connection, authenticity, and the art of therapy itself. Here, you’ll find:
- Diverse clients from many cultural, economic, and identity backgrounds
- Flexibility to build your schedule around your life (within certain guidelines)
- Supportive, relational supervision that focuses on growth, reflection, and clinical skills. We provide both group supervision and triadic supervision, so you get extra support and a variety of perspectives.
- Varied work with individuals, couples, and families—often longer-term therapy
- Streamlined admin systems so you can focus on client care rather than paperwork
Because we are a private practice (not a government-funded agency), compensation is based on the hours you actively work, like sessions, supervision, and documentation time. We can’t always compete with agency salaries, but we offer something many therapists value even more: meaningful, sustainable work that feels personal and flexible.
Staying On After Licensure
One of the benefits of working at Therapy for Every Body is that your journey does not end when you become licensed. Many of our associates choose to stay on as licensed therapists, continuing to grow within a supportive and well-run practice. Once licensed, you gain even more control over your schedule and caseload, allowing you to shape your work in a way that aligns with your professional goals and personal life.
For those who love therapy and envision this as a lifelong career, being part of a group practice offers the best of both worlds: the independence of private practice and the community and stability of a larger team. We handle all the non-therapy tasks, like billing, marketing, scheduling, referrals, and administrative support, so you can stay focused on your clients and your craft.
Is Therapy for Every Body Right for You?
If you’re seeking an environment that’s relational rather than corporate, values inclusion and compassion, and gives you a true sense of what private practice can feel like, with billing, marketing, and admin handled for you, then Therapy for Every Body might be the right next step.
