CBT Therapy

Change the patterns that keep you stuck

Cognitive behavioral therapy starts from a simple idea: the way you think shapes how you feel and what you do, and those patterns can be changed. If anxiety, low mood, or the same painful loops keep pulling you back, CBT offers practical, proven tools to respond differently. At Therapy for Every Body, our CBT therapists work with you in San Jose, Santa Clara, Fremont, Oakland, and Morgan Hill, and through telehealth across California.

CBT might be a good fit if any of this sounds like you

CBT is one of the most researched approaches in therapy, and it helps with a wide range of struggles. It is structured and active, which many people find reassuring, and it is built around skills you can carry into your real life. It tends to be a strong fit when you want practical tools alongside understanding, not just one or the other.

      Z

Anxious or spiraling thoughts take over and you want a way to work with them.

      Z

Low mood has made it hard to do the things that used to feel good.

      Z

You notice the same unhelpful patterns repeating and want to break the cycle.

      Z

You like the idea of a focused, goal-oriented approach with clear direction.

      Z

You want skills you can use between sessions, not only insight in the room.

      Z

Something specific is weighing on you and you want to make real progress on it.

      How CBT can help

CBT is not about positive thinking or pretending problems away. It is about noticing the automatic thoughts that shape your emotional life, looking honestly at whether they are helping or hurting, and learning to respond in ways that serve you better. Because so much of what keeps us stuck happens on autopilot, simply seeing those patterns clearly is often the first real relief.

Research shows CBT can be as effective as medication for many people with anxiety and depression, and the skills tend to keep working long after therapy ends. Our therapists are trained in CBT and tailor it to you rather than handing over a one-size-fits-all worksheet. They also draw on related approaches when it helps, including somatic therapy for stress your body is holding, mindfulness based methods to build presence, and EMDR when past experiences are part of the picture. The work fits you, not the other way around.

      Common questions about CBT therapy

What does CBT actually look like in a session?

Sessions are focused and collaborative. You and your therapist look at the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors connected to what brought you in, and you build practical skills to respond differently. It is structured, but it is still a real human conversation, not a lecture. Many people in San Jose and Santa Clara appreciate having a clear sense of direction.

      Does CBT involve homework?

Usually, yes, though it is better thought of as practice. That might mean noticing your thoughts during the week, trying a new coping skill, or taking a small step toward a goal. Your therapist works with you to find practice that feels manageable and meaningful rather than overwhelming.

      What can CBT help with?

CBT has strong evidence for anxiety and depression, and it also helps with stress, sleep, anger, low self-esteem, and trauma-related symptoms. Trauma-focused CBT in particular is designed to help process difficult experiences safely and at your own pace.

How is CBT different from DBT?

Both are structured and skills-based. DBT was developed especially for intense emotions and relationship difficulties, and it weaves in mindfulness and acceptance alongside change. CBT focuses more directly on shifting thought patterns. Many therapists blend the two, and we can help you figure out which fits you during your consultation.

      Do you accept insurance?

We accept several insurance plans and are happy to walk through coverage and options during your free consultation, so the cost is clear before you begin.

      Can I do CBT online?

Yes. We offer telehealth throughout California, and CBT works very well remotely. For many people, practicing new skills from home, where they actually live their lives, makes the work even more effective.

      Something Better Is Possible

When you have been stuck in the same patterns for a while, it can be hard to picture them shifting. You do not have to take that on faith. CBT gives you a clear, practical place to start, and the first step is just a conversation about what you want to change.

      We’re here when you’re ready.
