DEPRESSION THERAPY
You deserve more than survival mode
Does any of this sound familiar?
Depression doesn’t always look like sadness. For a lot of people it looks more like flatness, exhaustion, or a creeping sense that nothing really matters the way it used to.
You might recognize yourself in some of these:
Things that used to bring you joy feel hollow or far away.
You’re functioning, but only barely.
Getting out of bed takes more effort than it should.
You feel irritable or short-tempered more than sad.
You’re showing up for everyone else but running on empty.
You’ve wondered whether this is just who you are now.
Depression has a way of making temporary states feel permanent. Most of what’s on that list is more changeable than it feels right now.
How depression therapy can help
Depression is not a character flaw or a sign that something is fundamentally wrong with you. It’s a real, treatable condition that affects how the brain regulates mood, energy, and motivation. Therapy helps by addressing the thought patterns, behaviors, and sometimes the underlying experiences that are keeping you stuck.
Our therapists use approaches with strong evidence behind them, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), somatic therapy, and mindfulness-based methods. For people whose depression is connected to past trauma, EMDR is also available. Your therapist will work with you to figure out what fits, not hand you a one-size-fits-all plan.
What the right support can help you do
Understand what’s driving the depression, not just manage the symptoms.
Break the cycles of avoidance and withdrawal that make it worse.
Rebuild a sense of meaning, connection, and forward motion.
Develop tools that work when things get hard.
Feel like yourself again, or maybe for the first time.

Common questions about depression therapy
How do I know if what I'm feeling is depression?
If you’ve been feeling low, flat, or disconnected for more than a couple of weeks, and it’s affecting your work, relationships, or daily life, it’s worth talking to someone. You don’t need a diagnosis to reach out. Our therapists in San Jose and across the Bay Area can help you figure out what’s going on.
What does depression therapy actually look like?
Your first session is a conversation, not an evaluation. Your therapist will ask about what you’re experiencing, your history, and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. From there, sessions are structured around your specific patterns and goals, using approaches like CBT, somatic therapy, or EMDR depending on what fits.
How long does it take to feel better?
It varies. Some people notice meaningful shifts within 8 to 12 sessions. Others benefit from longer-term work, especially when depression is tied to earlier experiences or ongoing stress. Your therapist will revisit goals with you regularly so you always know where you are in the process.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. Therapy for Every Body is in-network with Cigna and Aetna at all of our locations in San Jose, Santa Clara, Fremont, Oakland, and Morgan Hill. Most insurance plans cover therapy for depression in the same way they cover a doctor’s visit. We get some initial information from the insurance company before you start. If you have an out-of-network plan, we can provide documentation for out-of-network reimbursement.
Can I do depression therapy online?
Yes. Telehealth sessions work exactly the same as in-person and are available to anyone in California. For a lot of people, being able to attend from home makes the difference between starting therapy and putting it off. You can have all your sessions online, or you can use it as an occasional backup option.
What if I've tried therapy before, and it didn't help?
Therapy not working often comes down to fit, timing, or approach, not you. We’ll ask what your previous experience was like before we start, so we’re building on what you know about yourself rather than starting from scratch.
You don’t have to keep feeling this way
Anxiety can make it hard to imagine things being different. But feeling differently is possible, and it usually starts with one conversation.
We’re here when you’re ready.
